Con of the North

Con of the North

Gaming conventions never cease to amaze me. Here we have a fantastic collection of people, hundreds of people in this one room right now, that share a common interest in board games, card games, miniatures games, all sorts of games. The variety of humanity never ceases to fascinate me; geekdom comes in a lot of different forms. The age range o these people runs from near geriatric to the grade school roleplayers. We have the guy in a business suit to the LARP dressed as a monk.

We got it all here.

I'm helping out my 'Friendly Local Game Shop', more commonly known as the FLGS, and watching the general tumult of it all. Unicorn Games is not the big mega-store that sometime seemingly dominates these events. Unicorn is kind of like the gaming shops I visited when I was in high school, It has the personal feeling of a 'mom and pop shop'.

This is a shop were loyalty counts. The help I give them this weekend will be remembered.

Started our planning for the next LBHA convention

Yesterday I started the planning for our trip to North Platte for the LBHA convention. It is looking like this might turn into another monumental roadtrip. Our thinking right now is that we will make a number of stops on our way to Deadwood after the convention. I've planned a route that would take us to the Wyoming Territorial Prison, Fort Phil Kearney and a number of other Old West historical sites. The trip might land us in Deadwood during the 'Days of 76' rodeo but this just might work out fine.

Con of the North is in less than two weeks!

Con of the North happens in less than two weeks!

I haven't been to a gaming convention in quite awhile. I also haven't updated this blog in quite awhile (well over three months actually). I think I will need to make updating this a more regular task.

I originally intended this blog to serve as a sort of reporting site for when Laurie and I travel. This year we do have some trips planned but we have even more con runs planned at this point. Now that I am back into gaming I have developed a definite loyalty for a specific gameshop and have been doing a bit to help them keep their doors open. Part of this has been acting in a sort of consultative role around their E-bay activities. Now I have come up with the idea of using their participation at gaming conventions as a sort of marketting tool for their E-bay site.

What this all comes down to is that if we can make Con of the North work for them then we may have to assist them at other cons. Now this all isn't just a charitable act on my part; I am watching this all very closely to use the gained knowledge towards some retirement endeavors of my own in the future. If this can work for them it will work for me.
